Read on to learn how, or contact your local TIRECRAFT to start a personalized winter tire consultation.

Save On Auto Insurance With Winter Tires In 2021

Not only can winter tires keep you safe this holiday season, but for the past five years, they’ve been helping Canadians save money, too.

Since 2016, the Government of Ontario has mandated that insurance companies must provide drivers with a discount when they install winter tires.

The exact Ontario winter tire discount varies by insurance company, but the driver qualification process is largely the same. In most cases, you’ll need to prove that your vehicle is equipped with winter tires that are approved by the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC). To determine whether or not your winter tires are TRAC-approved, just check the sidewall—if you see the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) or Alpine symbol, you’re good to go!

All TRAC-approved winter tires carry this symbol.

As a policyholder, you may also be required to provide any of the following forms of proof of purchase and/or installation, including:

  • Pictures of your winter tires with the Alpine symbol on full display
  • Receipts proving that your winter tires were purchased within the last 5 years
  • Bill of sale/proof of installation

Once you’ve provided the required documentation, your winter tire discount will remain on your car insurance for the full term of the policy (usually a one-year term). This includes the summer months, when your winter tires are stowed away!
