Transmission Repair Review: What’s Involved In A Transmission Service?

Do you suspect it’s time to book a transmission service? Is your car making strange sounds in neutral, reeking of something acrid, or “slipping gears”? Don’t fret—TIRECRAFT can help.

Today’s post explains what’s included in our standard transmission repair package, then touches on a few ways we can save you money on your next service. Read on or contact your local TIRECRAFT provider to start a free transmission service consultation straight away.

What’s Involved In A Quality Transmission Service?

The term “transmission service” covers a wide range of checks and actions, but no two services are exactly alike because every vehicle and driver is different. For example, an automatic transmission service for a Honda will look much different than one ordered for another make, since Honda uses individual gears on axles, similar to a manual transmission, instead of planetary gears.

That said, these are 4 common types of transmission service we perform on a regular basis:

  • Automatic transmission diagnostics—An ASE-certified technician will connect the diagnostic equipment to your vehicle’s on-board computer, review the reading to pinpoint the problem area, then get right to work. We may also request a test drive so that our technicians can monitor the transmission’s behaviour in real-time.
  • Automatic transmission fluid drain and fill—Our transmission service techs remove the fill/drain plug, drain your dirty old transmission fluid, then top you up to the proper level.
  • Automatic transmission filter replacement—To keep your transmission filter working properly, we’ll remove the old pan, replace the old filter, replace the old gasket material, replace the pan gasket, reinstall the pan, and refill your transmission fluid.
  • Manual transmission service—A TIRECRAFT technician will remove, examine, and clean the sump or pan, replace or clean the screen/filter, top up your transmission fluid, and reinstall the pan with a new pan gasket.

Whatever your transmission repair or maintenance needs, you’ll find superior service, and get more for your money, at your local TIRECRAFT.
