About Us

Mckee Tirecraft has been selling and servicing tires in the Collingwood area since 1956. Bob McKee first opened the business as a two bay Shell gas station. Bob focused the business on service right from day one. He did mechanical repair and tires however gas was the mainstay of the business. The business continued to grow and in 1958 Bob’s brother Hugh joined the business. Hugh started to grow the tire business beyond just car and light truck tires. Hugh saw an opportunity to service the truck tire industry and the large market of farm tires so close at hand. By 1970 when Hugh left the business McKee Tire was the place to go to for all your tires need servicing Simcoe, Grey and Dufferin Counties.

With Hugh leaving Bob’s other brother John partnered into the business.

Bob’s son Tom had started working at the gas station pumping gas and helping when he was 8 years old. By the 70s Tom could work on and fix any tire in the area. In 1974 John’s son Tim came to work at the shop. Both Tom and Tim (cousins) started assuming more responsibility for the general operation of the business.

Tom and Tim took over the business as partners and expanded their on road mobile service network which now covered Collingwood, Orangeville, Shelburne, Alliston, Barrie, Dundalk, Meaford, Bradford, Midland and Orillia. Customers who had their farm or truck tires serviced by McKee Tire knew they could count on fast reliable service at a fair price.

By 1999 a second location was opened south of Barrie in Innisfil at 2252 Bowman Street. This shop focused on the commercial truck tire traffic that traveled highway #400 plus the growing fleets in the Alliston, Barrie, and Bradford area. They started selling and servicing passenger and light truck tires from the shop but the clientele was primarily based on the numerous commercial accounts in the area. Farm tires were also a big part of this new location’s business and two mobile trucks serviced the area. In 2001 Tim went over to manage the Innisfil location. What had started out as a satellite location with 2 trucks, had grown so rapidly that it needed to operate as a standalone business.

In 2005 Mckee Tire joined the Tirecraft banner program. Today they are still the premier dealer in the area for all your tire needs. McKee Tirecraft has grown with the community and been there as it evolved and changed. They have remained rooted in the community and customer focused since 1956. Give us a call we will be glad to look after you with the same old fashion values and service ethics that we built our business on.

Testimonials:

I recently had the pleasure of engaging with some of your employees while travelling in Ontario. I was on my way home to Alberta from Stratford, ON., when I managed to get a side puncture in one of my rear tires on the TransCanada Highway. I stopped at a garage to fill the tire with air, I had no spare in my little Mazda, MX-5. The tire would not hold much air due to the puncture. I asked one of the attendants at the garage of there was a tire shop in town, to which he replied: “ No you have to drive to Barrie to get to a tire shop”. I obviously wouldn’t be able to travel far on a flat tire so I googled tire shops in Innisfil and to my relief there was a place called McKee Tirecraft and I put the address into my GPS.

When I arrived at the shop, my heart sank a little when I noticed all of the commercial truck tires. I thought it would be unlikely they would work on this little passenger car.  I was surprised to find that not only would they try to find the tires (I decided to buy 2 rear tires), but that the Service Advisor, Wendy Hutchinson, would phone around and try several places to obtain the tires, unfortunately, without any luck. She then called to have the tires delivered to the shop by the next morning. Wendy then recommended a hotel not far from the shop. It was a Holiday Inn. Not only did she help me find the hotel, but she got one of the employees to give me a ride to the hotel on his way home.

The next morning, at 08:00am, I received a call from Wendy to let me know my car was ready. She sent another fellow who was just finishing a night shift to pick me up and bring me back to the shop.

The car was ready to go and Wendy had all of the paperwork ready as well. The reason I am now writing to you is because I was very happy with the level of customer service provided by these people, Wendy, the manager Josh Nevill, and all of the other employees who mounted my new tires and drove me back and fourth from the hotel. I rarely see this level of commitment to good service and courtesy to customers. I am very thankful for their prompt and quality service as well as their “can-do” attitude. Please feel free to share this email with the staff at McKee Tirecraft, and keep up the good work. I very much appreciated this service when I was 5000km from home and did not have much of a clue as to where I was, let alone where I could find help without any wheels. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Peter Gibson
