If you are travelling south on #124 from Collingwood go south of Poplar Side road about 1km and we are on the left (east) side of the road as you start to come into Nottawa. From Stayner head west on Highway #91 out of town past the Tim Hortons until you come to the stop light in Duntroon. Turn right (north) onto County Road #124. Head north for about 7kms and as you pass through Nottawa we are on the north end on the right (east) side of the road.

Mckee Tirecraft has been selling and servicing tires in the Collingwood area since 1956. Bob McKee first opened the business as a two bay Shell gas station. Bob focused the business on service right from day one. He did mechanical repair and tires however gas was the mainstay of the business. The business continued to grow and in 1958 Bob’s brother Hugh joined the business. Hugh started to grow the tire business beyond just car and light truck tires. Hugh saw an opportunity to service the truck tire industry and the large market of farm tires so close at hand. By 1970 when Hugh left the business McKee Tire was the place to go to for all your tires need servicing Simcoe, Grey and Dufferin Counties.

With Hugh leaving Bob’s other brother John partnered into the business.

Bob’s son Tom had started working at the gas station pumping gas and helping when he was 8 years old. By the 70s Tom could work on and fix any tire in the area. In 1974 John’s son Tim came to work at the shop. Both Tom and Tim (cousins) started assuming more responsibility for the general operation of the business. In 1982 John retired from the business and by 1984 the shop underwent and expansion to serve the growing customer base.

Tom and Tim took over the business as partners and expanded their on road mobile service network which now covered Collingwood, Orangeville, Shelburne, Alliston, Barrie, Dundalk, Meaford, Bradford, Midland and Orillia. Customers who had their farm or truck tires serviced by McKee Tire knew they could count on fast reliable service at a fair price. This in turn brought more customers from all over the area to Collingwood for tires on their cars and pickup trucks.

In 1992 Collingwood decided to provide mechanical services once again. They offered services for alignments, brakes, suspension shocks and struts, oil changes, exhaust and mufflers and tune ups.

By 1999 a second location was opened south of Barrie in Innisfil at 2252 Bowman Street. This shop focused on the commercial truck tire traffic that traveled highway #400 plus the growing fleets in the Alliston, Barrie, and Bradford area. They started selling and servicing passenger and light truck tires from the shop but the clientele was primarily based on the numerous commercial accounts in the area. Farm tires were also a big part of this new location’s business and two mobile trucks serviced the area. In 2001 Tim went over to manage the Innisfil location. What had started out as a satellite location with 2 trucks, had grown so rapidly that it needed to operate as a standalone business.

In 2005 Mckee Tire joined the Tirecraft banner program. Today they are still the premier dealer in the area for automotive repair and all your tire needs. McKee Tirecraft has grown with the community and been there as it evolved and changed. They have remained rooted in the community and customer focused since 1956. Give us a call we will be glad to look after you with the same old fashion values and service ethics that we built our business on.

Community Support: Collingwood Minor Hockey, Collingwood Fair Board, Canadian Breast Cancer, Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Collingwood Collegiate Institute High School Coop Program.
