Car Tire Repair Tips: Be Tire Smart And Play Your P.A.R.T

Today’s post reviews TRAC research on the importance of proper car tire repair and maintenance, then explains where to find free repair consultations in your area. Read on or contact your local TIRECRAFT car tire repair specialist for help straight away.

Play Your P.A.R.T To Save Money On Car Tire Repair And Maintenance

The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) is the industry’s collective voice for educating consumers about the importance of car tire repair and maintenance. As part of their national public education initiative, TRAC recently launched a new awareness campaign, titled Be Tire Smart — Play Your P.A.R.T, encouraging motorists to adopt good tire maintenance practices, and we’re proud to do our part!

TRAC’s Play Your P.A.R.T campaign focuses on four key areas of proper car tire repair and maintenance: Pressure, Alignment, Rotation, and Tread.

Following these TRAC car tire repair and maintenance guidelines not only keeps you safer on the road for longer, but also improves comfort, fuel economy, and service costs over the long term:

Maintain Car Tire Pressure At Your Local TIRECRAFT

In addition to reducing your risk of flat tires and blowouts, maintaining car tire pressure is the only way to optimize handling and fuel economy. Whether you’re trying to reduce rolling resistance to save at the pump, or making emergency maneuvers to keep your family safe in a moment of crisis, proper car tire inflation makes all the difference.

Because tires can be up to 30% underinflated before any visible signs appear, we recommend checking air pressure manually at least once per month, and even more frequently come winter. Generally speaking, every time the temperature drops by 5°C, your tire air pressure decreases by 1 pound per square inch (PSI), so stay diligent through the cold season.

If you need help checking or topping up your car tire air pressure, we can help. Tire pressure top-ups are included as part of all of our car tire repair services, and every consultation is free, which means we’re happy to field your questions over the phone.

Maintain Car Tire Alignment At Your Local TIRECRAFT

“Poor alignment will cause your tires to wear unevenly and you may experience handling problems, such as pulling or vibration,” states the TRACanada website. Poor alignment also translates to poor fuel economy, so this expense quickly covers itself. TIRECRAFT recommends car tire alignments after every 20,000km or 12 months of driving.

Rotate Your Car Tires Regularly At Your Local TIRECRAFT

“Regularly rotation will minimize wear and prolong the life of your tires,” states the TRACanada website. More importantly, car tire rotation reduces the risk of tire failures.

Just like TRACanada, the TIRECRAFT car tire repair schedule recommends rotating your car tires every 10,000km or 6 months—whichever comes first.

Maintain Your Car Tire Tread With TIRECRAFT

The surest sign of worn treads is the appearance of “wear bars,” which are small, raised bars found within the grooves of your tires between the tread markings. Run your finger horizontally over the tread markings—if you feel the wear bar as much as the tread, it’s definitely time for a replacement.

For more help monitoring or replacing your car tire tread, or with any other P.A.R.T of your car tire maintenance plan, use the Find a TIRECRAFT tool on our website.
