What Is The ASE Certification?
When trying to determine the best car maintenance schedule, it’s always best to ask an ASE-certified expert.
Since 1972, the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence has worked to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive professionals.
“ASE test questions are written by individuals representing the entire industry, based upon what you should know to do the job,” explains ASE president and CEO Tim Zilke. “Add in the experience requirement, and you have a nationally recognized credential.”
Today, over a quarter of a million individuals hold ASE certifications, which means it’s never been easier for consumers to find trustworthy automotive repair service, fair quotes, and honest advice on maintenance needs.
So where do you turn for ASE expertise? To find an ASE-certified mechanic, you have two options. First, you can visit the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence website and use their Blue Seal Shop Locator, making sure to select the International Area option to find Canadian shops. Alternatively, you can use the Find a TIRECRAFT tool to locate the shop nearest to you. Since all of our tire techs and automotive repair experts are ASE-certified, you can’t go wrong.
Ask ASE-Certified Mechanics: What’s The Best Car Maintenance Schedule?
Although every driver and vehicle is different, our ASE-certified mechanics generally recommend the following car maintenance schedule:
- Every 5,000km or 3 months—Book an oil change and general car maintenance service.
- Every 10,000km or 6 months—Book a tire rotation in addition to your oil change and general car maintenance service.
- Every 20,000km or 12 months—Book a wheel balance, wheel alignment, and brake inspection.
- Every 40,000km or 24 months—Book a cooling system service, engine service, and transmission service.
In addition to this car maintenance schedule, we recommend making time for regular vehicle inspections at home. Focus on highly visible car parts and components, such as the headlights, taillights, and turn signals. You should also check for rust on the body, undercarriage, and under the hood. Do this as often as possible. A quick, 60-second inspection can reveal a lot about the state of your vehicle and its potential maintenance needs, and make your free consultation that much more productive.
