Summer is officially here! Time to roll down your windows, pick a playlist and hit the road. Our great country is made for road tripping! Take some time this summer and visit these incredible road trip favourites!
Pelee Island, Ontario
Pelee Island is the largest island in Lake Erie and the southernmost populated point in Canada. It’s a great day or weekend getaway for nature lovers. There are scenic views along its coast with forests, wetlands and prairies in its interior and there are plenty of things to do in Pelee Island including swimming, nature walks, bike rides, visiting local shops or the Pelee Island Winery.
The Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia
This is one of Canada’s most well-known road trip destinations, tracing the northern shoreline of Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island. It is popular for its year-round vast ocean view, highland scenery and unlimited culture. You can enjoy outdoor activities, festivals and lots of lobster!
Sea to Sky Highway, British Columbia
The Sea to Sky Highway links Vancouver to Whistler while offering beautiful West Coast views. This 2-hour drive shows both mountain ranges and coastlines with many must see attractions like Horsehoe Bay, Porteau Cove Provincial Park, and the Sea to Sky Gondola!
The Cowboy Trail, Alberta
Take a trip through cowboy country on Alberta’s Cowboy Trail. Running from Lethbridge to Edmonton, The Cowboy Trail avoids all major highways. Instead it provides a unique glimpse into Canada’s Wild West, from national parks, to road side diners, to horseback riding and more!
Icefields Parkway, Alberta
The Icefields Parkway is Highway 93 in Alberta that connects Banff and Jasper National Parks. With 232km between the two cities, you will want to leave yourself some time to stop on the side of the road to take in the amazing views. See the lush meadows, waterfalls, snow-capped Rocky Mountains, impeccable turquoise water and maybe even some wildlife on this must-see summer road trip.
Costal Drives, Prince Edward Island
Another island favourite in PEI spans across three scenic drives with over 1,000km combined. These are North Cape Costal Drive, Central Costal Drive and the Points East Costal Drive. All these drives loop around different sections of the island passing by beaches, lighthouses, fishing ports and much more! Must see attractions include the Anne Green Gables of Canadian literary fame and Confederation Bridge, a 12.9km bridge connecting to the island with its own weather monitoring system.
Algonquin Park, Ontario
The beauty and peacefulness of Algonquin Park simply can’t be beat. This provincial park is located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River. It was established in 1893, making it the oldest provincial park in Canada. The park is roughly 7,600 square kilometers in size, offering unlimited outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, biking, camping, fishing and bird and wildlife watching to name a few.
These are just some of the many amazing destinations to visit across Canada. We hope you can plan out your perfect road trip this summer!
