Toyo Tire Buyer’s Guide: When To Choose Low Rolling Resistance

In today’s Toyo Tire buyer’s guide, we highlight 3 reasons to choose low rolling resistance (LRR) Toyo Tires, like the Toyo Versado Echo, for your next tire upgrade.

LRR Tire Adoption Rates Remain Low Among Canadian Consumers—But Why?

According to the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada’s “Low Rolling Resistance Tire” report, only about one-in-ten (9%) of Canadian drivers use LRR tires. But why?

In this case, the low adoption rate has more to do with lack of LRR tire awareness than anything else. TRAC reports that, despite the fact that 87% of Canadian consumers want to take action to protect the environment, 76% of drivers are not familiar with the fuel-saving, eco-friendly benefits of LRR tires. What’s more, a full 46% don’t even know this tire option exists!

In light of that, the TIRECRAFT team is doing its part to spread awareness about the different advantages of Toyo Tires’ LRR tires.

Read on to learn how to tell whether low rolling resistance Toyo Tires are right for you, or contact your local TIRECRAFT to get answers to any questions you might have.

When To Choose Low Rolling Resistance Toyo Tires

1.   You Want To Do Your Part To Protect The Planet

Rolling resistance is the energy lost from drag and friction as tires roll over a surface. Toyo Tires’ lineup of low rolling resistance tires is designed to reduce this energy loss, thereby decreasing the amount of fuel that’s required to keep your car moving. On average, 4-11% of a vehicle’s fuel is consumed just to overcome tire rolling resistance, and a 5% reduction in rolling resistance can improve field economy by 1.5%.

Beyond reducing your vehicle’s consumption of fossil fuels, LRR tires have been shown to significantly reduce emissions.

If you count yourself among the 87% of Canadians looking for ways to take action and help protect the planet, Toyo Tires’ low rolling resistance lineup might be what you’re looking for.

2.   You Want To Save Money At The Pump

All the fuel savings listed above equate to money saved at the pump—as much as 3% annually, according to one study cited by Bridgestone Manufacturers.

3.   Your Daily Drive Doesn’t Demand Supreme Performance

“There’s no free lunch when it comes to tires,” says Greg Cressman, Technical Services Director for Yokohama Tire Canada. “Tires have so many jobs and responsibilities that there’s always a balancing act and a need for compromise.”

But modern LRR tires, like those featured in the Toyo Tire lineup, don’t compromise much in terms of performance. In one study by Transport Canada, LRR tires performed about the same or better than their regular tire counterparts, with researchers concluding that “handling performance showed no significant correlation with light-weighted and LRR tires.”

As long as you’re not braving icy roads or other demanding driving conditions every week, Toyo Tires’ low-rolling resistance options are a great choice.
